Significant Weather Event
Declaration Notice
Pursuant to O. Reg. 239/02, as amended
January 12, 2024 at 11:18 a.m.
The Township of East Garafraxa has declared a significant weather event starting Friday, January 12, 2024 for the anticipated winter weather this weekend.
Hazards: Heavy snowfall with total accumulations of 10 to 25 cm. Peak snowfall rates of 3 to 5 cm per hour. Strong wind gusts resulting in significantly reduced visibility in blowing snow.
Timing: This evening to Saturday morning. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
Unnecessary travel is not recommended.
This declaration is made as it relates to O. Reg. 239/02, as amended: Ontario’s Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways. The Township reminds drivers to exercise caution when using Township Roads and, as always, to drive according to the road and weather conditions. The Township will issue public notice when this significant weather event has ended.
*Please note that the Township of East Garafraxa may pause snow control operations during this time should the conditions warrant. *
