NOTICE OF ADOPTION OF A NEW OFFICIAL PLAN FOR THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF EAST GARAFRAXA

TAKE NOTICE that Council of the Corporation of the Township of East Garafraxa passed By-Law No. 27-2026 on the 23rd day of June 2026 pursuant to Sections 17 and 21 of the Planning Act, R.S.O., 1990, as amended, being a by-law to adopt a new Official Plan for the Corporation of the Township of East Garafraxa. The new Official Plan was initiated by the Township and is applicable Township wide. 

AND TAKE NOTICE that through the circulation and review of the Township of East Garafraxa Official Plan, the Township received five (5) written submissions from agencies, with no concerns or objections to the application, ten (10) written comments were received from the public, and eight (8) oral comments were received at the Statutory Public Meeting held on April 22, 2026. Council considered all the submissions received with respect to the new Official Plan, the effect of which helped Council to make an informed decision. 

AND TAKE NOTICE that the new Official Plan requires approval from the County of Dufferin, which is the approval authority under the Planning Act. The new Official Plan and supporting documentation will be submitted to the County of Dufferin for approval.

Any person or public body will be entitled to receive notice of the decision of the approval authority if a written request to be notified of the decision (including the person’s or public body’s address, fax number or email address) is made to the approval authority at the following address:

An explanation of the purpose and effect of the new Official Plan Amendment is given below. The complete new Official Plan and related information are available on the Township website or by request via email and/or fax by contacting the Township Clerk’s Department during regular office hours using the information below.

PURPOSE AND EFFECT OF THE NEW OFFICIAL PLAN

The purpose of the project was to complete a new Official Plan for East Garafraxa to be in compliance with the Provincial Planning Statement 2024 (PPS) and the County of Dufferin Official Plan.

The new Official Plan is intended to replace the current Township of East Garafraxa Official Plan adopted by Council on December 14, 2004, by By-law No. 59-2004, as amended, and approved by the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing on October 26, 2005.

Upon approval by the County of Dufferin, the new Official Plan shall repeal and replace the existing Official Plan, save and except those portions of the existing Official Plan and specific designations that are subject to any outstanding appeal.
