Our Township prioritizes fair and inclusive engagement, ensuring that all members of the public have equal opportunities to participate in the decision-making processes of our boards and committees, which play pivotal roles in shaping and guiding the Township.

Join a Committee

At the beginning of each Council term (following a municipal election) and as vacancies occur, Council will call for applications to volunteer on a Township Board or Committee.

Our Boards and Committees 

The Township of East Garafraxa has the following advisory boards and committees:

Credit Valley Conservation Authority (CVCA) is a non-share corporation, established under Section 3 of the Conservation Authorities Act, with the objects to provide, in the area over which it has jurisdiction, programs and services designed to further the conservation, restoration, development and management of natural resources other than gas, coal and minerals.

Under the Act, municipalities within a common watershed are enabled to petition the province to establish a conservation authority. The purpose of the Act is to provide for the organization and delivery of programs and services that further the conservation, restoration, development and management of natural resources in watersheds in Ontario. The authority is comprised of its Members, appointed as representatives by the participating municipalities. An additional member may be appointed to the authority by the Minister as a representative of the agricultural sector.

Participating municipalities in CVCA’s jurisdiction are as follows: • Region of Halton • Region of Peel • Town of Erin • Town of Mono • Town of Orangeville • Township of Amaranth • Township of East Garafraxa

A Committee of Adjustment is a quasi-judicial body that are appointed by Council to make decisions on certain development and planning applications made under the Planning Act

Section 45 of the Planning Act permits the Committee of Adjustment to make decisions on Minor Variances from the Zoning By-law, and to grant permission for altering or changing a lawful non-conforming use of land, buildings or structures.

Composition
The Committee of Adjustment shall be composed of the Mayor and all members of Township Council. The Mayor shall hold the position of Chair of the Committee and when the Mayor is absent, the Deputy Mayor shall be the acting chair.  Should both be absent, and provided quorum is achieved, the Committee shall appoint an acting chair for the applicable meeting.

Procedural matters shall be governed by the Township's Procedural By-Law governing meetings of Council.

 A 26-member Board of Directors, also known as the General Membership, oversees the operation of the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA). The board approves policies, programs and budgets.

  • Board members are appointed by municipal councils of participating municipalities, generally after municipal elections.

  • Smaller municipalities may share one representative, while larger municipalities may have one representative or more.

  • Municipalities may appoint elected officials or make citizen appointments, though it is required that 70 per cent of a municipality’s appointees are elected officials.

  • The GRCA General Membership usually meets on the fourth Friday of the month, at the GRCA Administration Centre (Google map). Meetings begin at 9:30 a.m. Board meetings are open to the public. Note: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, meetings are currently being held virtually. Members of the public can stream the live meeting, and view agendas, minutes and meeting dates on our Board Meetings page

The Joint Compliance Audit Committee is responsible for reviewing compliance audit applications submitted by an elector who believes on reasonable grounds that a candidate or third-party advertiser has contravened the provisions of the Municipal Elections Act relating to campaign or advertising finances. The Committee will be responsible for reviewing applications for all eight Dufferin municipalities.

The joint Board operates under the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019, S.O. 2019, c. 1, Sched. 1

The joint Board consists of one Council Member and one public member from each of the three municipalities, being the Township of East Garafraxa, Township of Amaranth and the Town of Grand Valley, and one ministerial appointee.

The Board will meet four times per calendar year. The new Board could decide later if they wish to meet more frequently; however, they are obligated under the CSPA to meet at least quarterly.
